From a young child I have always been a creative individual expressing my artistic eye and abilities in various forms of crafting. I have not formally studied art, but was introduced to fine art painting in 2000 and have never looked back. During a difficult time in my life a friend introduced me to The Art School of Peterborough. It was there that I met a great mentor and teacher, Richard Hayman who influenced my learning path in various art mediums. Creating art started as a form of therapy but soon became a great passion. It is a form of mediation to get lost in. Watching a painting take shape and develop before my eyes is magical. I work mainly in acrylic, watercolour, and gouache, an opaque water media, and have many different interests which draw me to many different subject matters. I love everything in nature and enjoy recreating the texture of bird feathers and animal fur, as well as, the intricate patterns of old weathered wood grain. I love the challenge in creating a painting that looks photographic being drawn to the play of light and shadows. Recently I have discovered the fine art genre of Miniature painting, and have begun to dedicate my work in this venue, ascribing to the guidelines set forth by the Association of Miniature Artists. I find great enjoyment painting in this delicate and detailed manner, creating very realistic images that are little gems for the eyes. On the other end of the spectrum, I also paint on the grand scale, and have a mural painting business. I enjoy utilizing a Trompe L’Oeil effect, creating visual impact in an individual’s surroundings to produce unique conversational pieces for homes and business. Having moved to rural life with my partner, Dan Lytle and my son, Jadyn, we now reside in the small village of Keene , Ontario, Canada, roughly 11/2 hours northeast of Toronto . I have been a member of Kawartha Artists’ Gallery and Studio since 2005, and have enjoyed the wonderful collective of artists within the walls of the red door. As a KAGS’ member I have participated in many art shows throughout the community, and I am editor of the KAGS’ newsletter. I am also a member of The Miniature Art Society of Florida , and the American Miniature Association.
